For Summer 2005, you may want to consider taking this course as a web-based course. Please contact the instructor (Professor O'Grady) if you are interested. PERMISSION OF THE INSTRUCTOR IS REQUIRED. A limited number of places are available and a GPA of 3.25 or above is required.

You will also need certain computing resources, as detailed below.

Resources Needed

See here for details of software requirements (Win XP and Office XP Pro are available at the Memorial Union Bookstore at approximately $5 each).

You will need to have a modern Windows XP Pro based computer with disk capacity for adding the Java SDK and other software (Note: You will also have to have the necessary permissions and you will have to have access to certain skills in loading software and troubleshooting.)

For some homework it is helpful (though not essential) to have a fixed IP or DNS address for your web site. This is available with DSL or cable modems, or within a corporate or academic setting. For Internet Service Providers such as AOL, IP addresses are allocated dynamically.

There are certain advantages to taking the course as a web-based course. You will for example be freed from the geographical problems of attending class at a particular time. However, you may miss out on classroom interchanges and question and answer sessions in class.
