The model was un-appended except for bilge keels, and not equipped with shafts, struts, propellers, or rudders. Accordingly, forces and moment and motions data, subsequent the hydrodynamic derivatives, and the local flow field data may differ from those from a fully appended condition.
The model was constrained in heave, pitch, and roll motions for the SPIV measurements, thus the flow field data may differ from the free motion conditions.
The number of SPIV measurement locations in the model longitudinal direction was limited (6 locations) and the flow field data in the direction might be sparse and not sufficient for a fully three dimensional flow structures.
In conjunction with and to resolve the limitations of the present work, a near future work plan includes
a PMM test in headwind and/or wave for a fully appended model (e.g. ONR Tumblehome model)
a fully three-dimensional PIV (e.g., a tomographic PIV) flow field measurement for the DTMB 5512 model in a static maneuver (with a large drift angle, β = 20˚)
a fully three-dimensional (or stereoscopic) PIV flow field measurement for a free running model
