To further the development of the state-of-the-art of optimal design of structures. The Committee shall encourage and disseminate new developments in practical applications to structural design, new computation techniques, methodology and algorithms.

To become a member of the technical committee on optimal structural design, an individual must have completed their formal education (either undergraduate or graduate degrees); have a strong interest in structural optimization (either through experience, research activities, etc...); presently be (or soon become) a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
