Sessions Planned for the Future: - Sessions and workshops are being planned for the 2004 Structures Congress V. Other activities (type of activities, action completed or planned) A. Completed during FY01 (10/00 - 9/01) - Identification of potential speakers and participants for the Workshop on Information Technology and Structural Engineering Education that will take place in the 2004 Structures Congress. - Recruitment During the last year we have recruited and accepted one new committee member. - Interaction with European Community (ongoing) In 2002 Ian Smith will report to the ECT committee on structural engineering and computing activities in Switzerland. Smith, a friend of ECT, and he- also represents the European Group for Structural Engineering Applications of AI, EG-SEA-AI (~60 persons). ECT and EG-SEA-AI are continuing to explore opportunities for joint activity. B. Planned for FY03 - ECT is planning and will organize a pre-congress workshop on 2004 Structures Congress. It is envisioned that the workshop will address the issue of university level educational aspects of computer usage and information technology for civil engineers. This workshop will provide a forum for reasoned dialogue on what might constitute adequate levels of undergraduate civil engineering exposure to computer programming and information technologies. C. Planned for the future VI. Plans for the Future (goals, areas of opportunity, etc.) - Continued recruitment The committee membership is still a concern, since number of members have had their terms expired.
