IBRAHIM tARIK OZBOLAT

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY

The mission of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMTech) group is to conduct cutting-edge research and development aimed at advancing and exploring next-generation manufacturing technologies, with an emphasis on model-based manufacturing and bio-manufacturing, with applicability to education, and with significant practical social value.

With diverse backgrounds in bio-manufacturing, CAD/CAM, robotics, electrical engineering, optimization, electronics and automotive manufacturing, , modeling and simulation and computer science, the growing AMTech group pursues a variety of novel projects in an effort to design, create, and test components, systems, and processes both virtually and physically. These projects range from biomanufacturing of tissue and organ replacement parts to digital manufacturing to simulation and modeling for electronic manufacturing.

PhD/Postdoctoral Position Openings !!!  

Prof. Ozbolat is a faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Iowa. He is also affiliated in the Center for Computer-aided Design (CCAD) as a research professor. He received his Ph.D in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in Buffalo, New York, and dual B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Industrial Engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. 

Dr. Ozbolat's major research thrust is in the area of Design, Manufacturing and Tissue Engineering with a special focus on Biomanufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Electronic Manufacturing and Model Based Manufacturing (MBM). His research has been published in several high quality of venues and featured in local, national and international media, broadcast TVs  and press numerous times. Please see research highlights for currently ongoing research activities as a part of our Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program. He belongs to Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society (APM), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS). He frequently give talks at local, national and international forums, conferences and seminars and organizes demonstrations and events to public and youth to encourage participation of future's engineers in medicine, engineering and science.  

He is leading University of Iowa's Biomanufacturing Laboratory (BioMfG,specialized in bio-printing for organ fabrication) and Electronic Manufacturing Team, and supervising Design for Manufacturing Laboratory. He has been engaged in several projects sponsored by governmental agencies, private corporations, local agencies and industry in applications ranging from design and manufacturing to clinical medicine and energy. As a part of CCAD mission, Dr. Ozbolat has been participated in spinning-off companies, where he co-owns the Virtual Systems Engineering, LLC. and BioPrint, LLC.
