Andreas Wahle

Associate Research Engineer and Adjunct Associate Professor

...was born in Essen and grew up in Frankfurt am Main, both in Germany. After his school-leaving examination at the Ziehenschule in 1984, he moved to Berlin, Germany. He used to reside in the Lankwitz and Kreuzberg quarters up to July 1997. While studying at the Technical University of Berlin, he focused on Computer Graphics. He received his M.Sc. degree in computer science in 1991, and completed his Ph.D. in engineering at the same department in 1996 (certified in 1997).

During 1990-1997, he performed his scientific research at the German Heart Institute of Berlin, department of internal medicine/cardiology, image processing subsection. He has been working in several projects of the German Research Society (DFG), the European Community, and the Detecon/DeTeBerkom (subsidiaries of the German Telecom).

In August 1997, he joined the University of Iowa, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in Iowa City, Iowa, as a Postdoctoral Associate, and occupies his current positions since February 2004. His two-years research project on medical image fusion, supported by the German Research Society (DFG), has been continued within the comprehensive scope of an R01 grant of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Further topics of ongoing and new research include the application of active appearance models in cardiology and the assessment of coronary arteries using computer tomography.
